How it Works

You identify your footage needs and send us your request to shoot it. After receiving your request and determining what our hard, out-of-pocket costs will be to shoot your scenes, we will then give you a quote starting at $399 to receive 6 royalty free clips custom made for you, sent in the native Red Raw .r3d file format.  More scenes can be ordered for a nominal incremental cost.   One scene is defined as a scene that has the same action, lighting, location and actors. For example, if you want a shot of a business person talking on a cell phone with an office building in the background, we’ll take a wide, medium, and a close up shot – that is considered one scene.  A second scene for example, would be if you wanted a shot of the same business person speaking to a 2nd business person at the same location.

Essentially, we’ll shoot your scenes for an amount equal to our hard, out-of-pocket costs, sometimes even less.  For example, if you want a lifestyle scene of a couple having dinner on their back yard deck in a suburban home, we would have to rent the location and pay for the two actors and have set dressing and wardrobe costs. If our hard out-of-pocket costs to shoot this scene are $500 for the 2 actors, $800 to rent the house, $250 for props and $500 for additional crew & equipment for a total hard cost of $2,050 – then the fee you would pay to buy the footage would be $2,050. Keep in mind that’s our hard, out-of-pocket costs – not what we, or any other production company would charge to shoot the scene if hired for a normal production where the footage is for the exclusive use of the client. If a production company’s internal out-of-pocket costs are $2,050 you’d typically be paying in the neighborhood of $5,000 – $7,500 or more for the shoot and even more for the pre-production work needed such as casting of the actors, researching and securing locations, scheduling, etc.  With our Custom Red Stock you save thousands!

What about our products or logos appearing in the footage?

Want to include your products or logo in the scene? No problem, for an additional fee we can feature your products and/or have the actors using your products in the shot. In this case, we will shoot 2 versions of the scene – one that features your products or logo and one that that doesn’t. Then obviously, the version without your products or logo will be the version that will go in our stock library for sale. So essentially your footage will be totally custom to you! The clips that will go in our library for others to purchase will feature the same actors, locations, etc. but they will be entirely different takes that do not include your products. The additional fee to include your products or logos in the footage is the regular fee times two.

What we don’t include in our out-of-pocket costs

We do not factor in a fee for any equipment that we own when determining our out-of-pocket expenses. We own the Red 4k camera package (we’ll soon have an Epic 5K camera) along with lights and a sound package. A 2-person crew is also included. Essentially anything else that we need to rent – whether personnel or equipment – is our out-of-pocket costs. This can include such items as locations, actors, sets, props, special equipment, etc. For example, if you wanted a shot of a woman doing yoga in the desert, we have all the equipment necessary to shoot that scene and all we’d have to do is hire an actor. If the actor cost $300 then that would be our total out-of-pocket costs  and that would fall under the minimum rate of $399 and that’s all you would pay for the Red footage! And if you wanted your product in the shot, for example say you sell a natural energy drink and you want a shot of the actor drinking your product. The additional cost would be two times the regular fee, or a total of $798 and those shots would be totally exclusive and custom for you! For the shots that would go into our library, we would use a generic bottle or can (no label).

Why shouldn’t I just buy Red stock footage from one of the other stock footage houses?

You can, but if you want to request any kind of custom shots you’re completely out of luck and you’ll have to pay the full price for a crew.  Custom Red Stock is the ONLY company that will shoot custom Red footage for you for so little and give you the native Red RAW .r3d files and even feature your products if requested!

When it comes to buying existing clips from a library -  most stock houses do not sell the native Red RAW files at any price and the ones that do typically charge $500 and higher for just one Red clip.  And MUCH higher if the footage is not royalty-free. Some rights managed Red stock footage costs over $8,000 for unlimited advertising use for just one clip!  When you order our Custom Red Stock you will always get the native Red Raw .r3d files.   Other stock houses might sell clips shot with the Red camera for less but they don’t give you any choice at all in either what codec or what resolution you can get the file in – 720 or 1080 is usually the only resolutions they offer.  With us you can order a custom 4k, 3k, 2k, 1080, 720 or SD file with the codec of your choice!

But some other stock footage companies sell clips for as little as $20 to $75.

Yes, but the vast majority of clips in that price range usually aren’t clips shot with the Red 4k Ultra High Definition camera and if they are, you can’t even buy the Red Raw .r3d files if you wanted to.  Most HD clips in that price range are typically shot with some kind of prosumer-grade camera that records in highly compressed formats like HDV, AVCHD and other flavors of h.264, XDCAM and DVCPRO HD.

At Custom Red Stock QUALITY is what we separates us from the rest!  Our Red camera originated clips cost only $79 each for the native Red Raw .r3d format and only $49 for a 1080 HD version. In addition, you can order custom resolutions of 4k, 3k, 2k, 1080, 720 or SD with the codec of your choice!   Custom Red Shots can be ordered for as little as $399 for 6 clips and can feature your logos or products in the shots for an additional fee – no other stock house offers custom shots or native Red .r3d files and up to 4k resolution custom encodes for so little!

If I want you to convert the raw Red files to another format, can you do that for me?

Yes, if you purchase the Red Raw.r3d file or the 1080 HD version, the cost to get an additional encode is $49 per each conversion. If you just order a custom file, the cost is $89.  Tell us if you want a straight conversion from the Red Raw file or one with the color correction that is on the 1080 HD version and we can convert to virtually any format with the exception of propriety Avid formats since we are a Final Cut Pro shop.

Will you shoot any scene regardless of content?

No. We reserve the right to refuse any request for any reason.  The main reason we’d refuse a request is if we feel there won’t be much of a demand for the footage in the stock footage market due to the nature of the content.  If such a situation arises, we can give you a quote for a normal production where you retain exclusive use of the footage. As far as content goes, there are no restrictions whatsoever other than we draw the line at hardcore pornography.

What are the other advantages of having the native Red .r3d file?

Well I’m glad you asked. Another HUGE advantage in getting the native Red .r3d file is that it’s roughly 4100 x 2300 in frame size – what’s considered “full” HD is only 1920 x 1080. With a 4k native file size, you can pan and scan and re-frame shots as you wish! Decide after wards that you wish you had not requested such a wide shot? No problem, just crop into a tighter 1920×1080 frame from within the 4k frame while maintaining 100% of the original quality and you have that tight shot you wanted! If you only have a 1080 or 720 clip and you’re working on an HD project, the only way to re-frame shots is to zoom into the picture which greatly diminishes resolution and quality.  Also unlike the plethora of low cost HD cameras, the Red camera shoots in the Raw format which gives you the maximum color and latitude information for color grading. Other cameras “burn in” looks, which reduces the possibilities of color correcting.

What’s the turnaround time after I put my request in?

As soon as we can! Depending upon the complexity of your shoot and what we need to procure and schedule, it may be as quick as a couple of days or it may take up to a couple weeks.

Who has final say on the actors, locations, props and other elements that are necessary for the shoot?

We’ll work with you to try to get exactly what you want for your scene. We’ll get your input on what you want to see in terms of actor’s, locations, props and anything else that will appear in the footage. But since we will be making an investment in your footage and will be taking on the risk of whether the footage will sell or not later on, we retain final decision on all the elements involved in the scene so as to create footage that we feel will make it the most marketable in our library.

What is your refund policy?

Once you place the order, you have 24 hours to cancel. One day after you’ve placed your order, pre-production work and our investment in your footage begins as we schedule crew, equipment, actors, locations, etc. and you will not be able to get a refund should you cancel the order. Since we will be working with you to shoot the scene exactly as you want prior to shooting, there’s very little chance that you won’t be happy with the footage after it is shot. Again, since we will be making an investment in your footage – even if we have no out of pocket costs at all, the minimum fee only covers a small percentage of our labor and our owned equipment usage costs, and because of that we cannot give any refunds after we have shot your scene or after we have begun pre-production work.

Is all the footage in your library royalty-free?

Yes, all of the shots will be royalty-free. Once you have purchased the footage and we’ve delivered it to you, it is at your disposal to be used in movies, broadcast, non-broadcast, web or however you see fit. You are not allowed to resell or offer free of charge any of the footage to another party for use as stock footage. The royalty-free agreement is for the sole use of the individual, organization or company who purchased it. That party or group is entitled to cut the stock footage into any production for themselves or for a client. You are purchasing a royalty-free license to use the footage for a term equal to the life of purchaser. iCorpTv retains the copyright and ownership of all footage. (If you are unsure whether the use of footage in a particular circumstance is breaking the royalty-free agreement, just contact us with as much detail as possible and we will respond accordingly).  Read the license here.

Can I check out the quality of your work, do you have a demo of Red 4k footage?

Yes, to watch our Red Camera Montage video, please go to our Red Demo page.

Even though the Custom Red Stock program is in Alpha can we place an order now?

Yes! Please go to our Contact page to send your request.

Where is your existing Red 4k footage that is available for purchase and use Royalty-free?

All of our existing Red footage is already on the site. Just do a search at the top of the page or click on one of the Categories on the right to find what you’re looking for.

Will you be upgrading to the Epic and/or Scarlet when it comes out?

Yes, as soon as we get the Epic 5k camera we will be using it.  We’re hoping the Epic comes out before the end of 2010.  But whenever it comes out, with a low serial number on our Red One we’ll be one of the first to get an Epic.

Are all the files available via download?

Yes, unless they are just to large.  In that case, we’ll mail a disk to you.

We don’t want any of our footage being available for others to buy, do you also do custom productions where the client retains exclusive use of the footage?

Of course! That’s our main business. Please go to the iCorpTv web site for more information on our creative custom productions.
